AN analog issue

A buddy has an odd issue on his analog side. AN TT2 with Arm 3 & IQ3, phono is either M2 riaa or Mieshu internal phono. Amp is AN Mieshu, speaks AN/K

Eversolo as dac or streamer into Dac 1.1 or Marantz transport into the dac work fine.

When the TT is run for about an hour there’s an almighty distortion that comes in suddenly, speaker damage loud. Happens using both phonos.

Any thoughts?

Static build-up and discharge?

It’s possibly some warm-up related issue happening in the amp (e.g. expansion-related dry joint issue), and which is specific to whatever input(s) the vinyl is on - but even that seems unlikely given it happens with both internal and external stages.

Yep, different inputs for internal and external phono. Some sort of static seems the most likely, but where from?? The motor, platter/sub platter?? Seems odd it would build over a longish period and then discharge.

Not a clue, though there’s plenty that can be done to ameliorate static - and Google is a thing. Thoroughly eliminate that as a source of the issue and if it persists, get the amp checked over.

He’s already had a go at the turntable interfaces. Not sure if he’s had a chance to experiment further yet.

Seems unlikely the issue is at the amp, if the two inputs for the TT are an issue I’d have thought the inputs for digital would also play up

Logic like that would indeed apply to most amps, but this is ANUK we’re discussing…
