Is expensive anti virus software needed on Windows 11.
I’m being quoted £50 for 1 year, £80 for 2 year AVG basic. All the extra stuff is a lot more.
I think that it was mentioned in the past that Windows built in protection was adequate, but I cannot find it now.
I do banking and internet payments on the laptop.

No, use the inbuilt Windows Defender which is free.
Nope, defender built into win11 is good enough for most use cases.
In fact we just replaced “trend” with it at my work, and now use defender (albeit with enterprise management) for all endpoint devices.
The market for AV must be in trouble these days?
Well I suspect for consumers they broke that by creating heaps of shit like Norton bloatware.
