Squirrel was on the menu at The Ship last week (Game Night), so I can confirm they are tasty little buggers

Iâm struggling to think of another rodent that we eat in this country. Dormice went out of favour when the Romans left and rats, although plentiful, seem to be seen, pretty much, as âfood of last resortâ. Maybe they taste better than they look ?

Even sugar mice have gone out of fashion. Used to enjoy those as a child.
Squirrel is tasty, used to be able to get it on the menu of one of the more adventurous Chop House type restaurants in London. For some reason I recall they also served up Rook.
Once ate a rat known as Grass Cutter in Ghana
Now I know where the Leningrad Cowboys got their inspiration from
Even rabbit (not a true rodent, avowedly), has fallen from favour - itâs so looked-down-upon that I never even see it on game night menus. Beats me why, well-cooked wild rabbit is a treat.
Indeed. I used to come across the occasional couple of blokes out on a weekday afternoon with nets/snares and maybe a terrier. Rabbits exist in vermin quantities here. But it must be two or three years since I last saw anyone trapping them. Theyâre a bit too gamey for Mrs VB, but I really like them.

Rabbit curries a treat, even if itâs properly gamey - much nicer than chicken
Plenty around here. You can even buy it locally. We donât have to as the neighbour (the farmer) supplies as many as we can eat.
I bought some wild rabbit from a butchers in Ludlow recently.
Iâve seen it on menus.
You need to stop eating in McDonalds.

âA mixture of butter and lard is goodâ
This will be dealt with.
Iâll chip-in if youâre authorising a hit.
Pigeon makes a very fine curry as well.
Good shout! It does - tandoori pigeon breast is lush - marinated well first then in and out in no time!!!
