Pinkerton looks absolutely terrifying. Would quite calmly and happily knife you in a dark alley.

Not sure who is more scary, him or his wife.

Pinkerton’s life is quite a marvel. The rise of his detective agency, his spy network, foiling the assassination of Lincoln. Unbridled madness, a full life all told.

He is the exact weegie whose pint you do not want to spill - sees punching people in much the same way the rest of us see breathing or eating, and has never encountered any Thing that doesn’t annoy him or experienced any emotion that isn’t anger…

When he wasn’t busy being angry he was busy being cunning.

Weirdly all the women look like people I hung out with in the late 80s, who in turn were basically sporting the full 4AD look. I swear I briefly dated middle and right

“So Grant gets drunk, does he?” queried Lincoln, addressing himself to one of the particularly active detractors of the soldier.

“Yes, he does, and I can prove it,” was the reply.

“Well,” returned Lincoln, with the faintest suspicion of a twinkle in his eye—"you needn’t waste your time getting proof; you just find out, to oblige me, what brand of whiskey Grant drinks, because I want to send a barrel of it to each one of my generals.”
