We’re they the one’s used as tank transporters?

There was one on sale in Straya a while back:

Adorable :star_struck: - but I’d forgotten quite how spartan old commercials are! Air-intake in the cab = LOTS of lovely induction noise - need a serious set of ear-defenders to drive more than round the block!

Ones I knew were the scammel commanders, did some of my HGV training in one of these at Leconfield.

Not a clue but whatevers in the crate is probably worth more.

reminds me of a time when I was doing some cash in hand labouring work in about 1979 & we’d gone in a Bedford pickup truck to take down (iirc) some fence posts on a piece of land near Port Vale’s ground. The Bedford got stuck down a long muddy track & couldn’t be shifted so we called a recovery company who sent a truck which also got stuck. With awe, reverence & no little concern about the cost of firing it up, the recovery guys summonsed a friend with a vehicle called the Diamond T. this was a huge, ex US military tank transporter/recovery vehicle with massive winches & pulling power. If I recall, they didn’t even need to bring it too close to our two stuck vehicles & if memory serves it pulled them both out together. Proper monster of a thing. Something like this or it may have been a slightly newer model. Very large & noisy.

A nice piece about them here.

Timing the shutter to the nuclear detonation just round that corner must have been tough.
