Big John Duncan of the Exploited, Goodbye Mr Mackenzie* and here as Kurt Cobain’s guitar tech.
Obviously he cut a very distinctive figure and was a regular character in late 80s, early 90s Edinburgh.
* who also gave us Shirley Manson. In later years the wife worked with “the other woman from Goodbye Mr Mackenzie”. The one who doesn’t have a bio on Wikipedia. That must be a hell of a cross to bear.

Zoot suits are now just seen as a cultural oddity, but at the time they caused moral outrage. Many states and cities enacted bans on them. The ban cited waste of fabric which should go towards the war effort, but were largely spurred by racism. The style originated with Latino Americans and spread to black hep-cats. The outrage even led to violence . . .

“Minnie The Moocher” is, and always will be, the best song-about-drugs ever written: its centenary is just over seven years away - but (I just now google) that its origin is ca. 1904, as “Willie The Weeper”!

I’ve always loved his rather large cameo in The Blues Brothers. The scene in which the band are transformed into his 40s orchestra is magic
