Great picture ! Cooper wasnât in the capsule for two weeks but he did set a new US flight duration record. The Mercury capsules were tiny
and so much went wrong with Cooperâs that he had to take control of it manually for re-entry and splashdown. He was lucky to survive (or maybe just a very good pilot who stayed cool under pressure).
Quite right! It was Jamieson that spent two weeks on the recovery ship waiting for the eventual splashdown. That he captured Cooperâs dazedânâamazed look so well in such a complex abstract manner is just phenomenal. All a year before I was even bornâŚ
