Dave Hill used to live in a large house right outside the entrance of Malvern Hall girls school in Solihull. All through Slade’s peak there’d be crowds outside his house in the morning and afternoon as the girls tried to catch a glimpse. Fortunately for them, he didn’t share the tastes of his contemporary, Mr Gadd.

@Ruprecht It was interesting to see on his Wiki page that he was born at Flete House (Mothecombe) which became a maternity hospital after Freedom Fields in Plymouth was destroyed in the blitz in 1941.

I’m starting to fear Mr. MWS is Dave. I’m not sure there are any Rock stars either, just Dave working through ā€˜Ideas.’

… you only have to scroll up a little to realize Dave is also Freida Carlo.

We used to see him tooling about quite a bit in his easily identified Roller.

One of our local celebs you’d see from time to time was Elton john in his Bentley.
Bumped into him at a local shop in the late 70s where he was buying a dandy album for I think his nephew.
My comment of don’t spunk all your money went down like a lead ballon.

Didn’t he have that plate on bike once?

As mentioned before I bought my house from a musician.
When he was playing in the Spencer Davis group they were auditioning for a singer.
He told me. ā€˜This bloke came in straight from work, he was wearing a milkman’s coat and had thick bottle end glasses. He was an OK singer but Spencer and I decided that he would never have any stage presence or make it in a band that woud be on TV etc.’
Reg Dwight didn’t get the job

He had a similar reception at the local pub where he played his first gig in the late 60s,apparently the owner thought he was a bit rubbish,he brought out yellow brick road a couple of years later.

Pub owners son Steve, ended up as his tour manager in the 70s.

Think it was their first stint as support, iirc they toured with Big Black, and Louisville would have been first venue, but don’t think it was their first paid-gig…

Just wish I had that time machine! :star_struck:
