If a AN M1 has phono inputs and “phono” on the input selector knob, does it definitely have a phono stage inside?

Nope, think both have the same chassis but should say line or phono on the front and on the serial number tag though.
It’s Audio Note so I guess it depends on which badger made it and when. Suspect best to have a look/photo from inside. I have a M2 Phono which is an early one with inputs down the left hand side. 6sn7 line stage and 4xECC83 in the phono stage. But seen a number of variations on that theme.
I’ve asked for a pic of the internals ![]()
As if to prove your point: A while back I had an early, old logo, side entry M2 Phono which definitely contained a phono stage but the valve complement was completely different!
Not sure that the M1 was made in the UK.
Maybe that was just the early ones, have a feeling the experiment didn’t work and they moved production to UK
