Audiowank

Minimalist in the way that trousers are minimalist. It hides the bits. Also can it detect 12 inch 45 singles?

Why does a $6000 turntable have a “volume” control?

It says it can detect 45pm…. I’d like to understand how? I have some 12” 45’s and even some 12” that are 45 on one side and 33 on the other.

How on earth can it possibly understand, and there’s no button to override it.

Nonsensical product

Groove width sensor?

Sensor for what?

I have many albums that even my ear isn’t 100% sure what speed they should be :joy: good luck to a sensor!

Groove width

but thats not a constant either… you can get single sided 33rpm with very wide grooves, and you can have massively dense 33rpm albums with tight grooves. Same goes for 45rpm records. Groove width tells you nothing about the speed of the playback.

Width and pitch are different things, suspect you mean the latter.

But neither is a reliable way of determining required playback speed.

but why would width vary? a 45rpm and a 33rpm record are likely to be cut on the same lathe… so why would there be any variance in that.

There will be likely be some, but yes in general the variation of actual width will be small and I certainly doubt it correlates with playing speed.

I’m agreeing with you, it was the terminology I was objecting to.

It’s a product for fashion victims rather than people who play their records.

Genuinely don’t know how this thing automatically works out 33 to 45 other than some form of groove sensor but even then I’d be interested to know what it’s measuring hence the ?

My guess is it will be bought by people who only have 30 sealed records with no intention of ever using it.
They have even cleverly hidden the cartridge as they know it will never be worn out*

I imagine it just detects 7or 12 inch? Probably flummoxed by 12 inch 45s and 7 inch 33s. As indeed am I quite frequently.

In that case I wish they had done it properly. ÂŁ15K or bust.

The madness is being so complacent as to not include a manual speed switch

I suspect they’re playing a big game of bluff that they won’t be found out…

Same tech done better here.

I was quite impressed by the speed control, I thought it would just get pitched up as time went on.
