Beautiful Things

A Riva is one of the things I’d like to own if I ever won an 8 figure sum on the lottery.

(I’d also need to start doing the lottery first!)

I’d love that moored up on the Severn about 100m away from my house just so I can pop up river to Bewdley in style and have a pint in the Mug House and a packet of chips on the way back.

The rooftop pool bar is fab.

Rooms are OK but it’s location is the middle of nowhere.

I love Islamic calligraphy as an art form at the best of times but this is on another level

`

The art of
calligraphy on a dried leaf, was practised widely in Ottoman Turkey.
This was difficult & delicate work. The leaf was dried,
& the tissue removed to leave the skeletal membrane, with gold
ink applied over it.

Beautiful. Have shared that with my fasting friends.

I have a recurring nightmare about travelling up many floors in a claustrophobic manky lift to emerge at the top of something like that which is swaying in high winds. So fuck off. Looks nice though.

As for the Riva, clarkson agrees with you but you’d need to move the seats back a bit for most meatmen, less legroom than a Norfolk garage.

During the last 10 nights of Ramadan, many Muslims spend
more time in Mosques in contemplation &
prayer.

Mosque ceilings are designed to reflect the
magnificence of the universe.

For Ramadan, here are
spectacular details of 24 Mosque ceilings from around the
world…

Stunning.

The ceiling in the first photo of the Shah Mosque in Tehran is extraordinary. I remember being blown away by the ceilings in some of the buildings in Morocco and Tunisia.

I was by some of the interiors & ceilings in the Alhambra when we visited in 2019. Extraordinary

I’d love to visit the Alhambra - some day hopefully.

There was one room in Tunisia that was really quite something - didn’t manage to get many decent photos due to the lighting but this give an idea

the technique, skill and patience involved doing this stucco work is mind boggling when you see the whole ceiling.
