Best product to treat a wooden bench?

I’ve spent the morning saving / restoring a long neglected bench, below

Can anyone recommend a product to preserve it please ? Not too fussed if it is also a stain; I’m just looking for something that looks good and gives reasonable quality protection from the elements.

Do you know the timber it’s constructed from?

Teak oil. Or boiled linseed.

What about oil. Rub it over and over again until no more will be absorbed, then rub it all off. When needed just rub some more on. I used on the mahogany floor of my boat and it was perfect.

Beat me :grinning:

I’ll go and see if I can find out.

Don’t stain. anything water based is a waste of time.
Oil it.

It just says FSC Hardwood :man_shrugging:

Osmo do the best oils etc. in the business imho. Not cheap, but not bonkers money either, and they work incredibly well.

My favourite bench

Danish oil

I’d likely go for yacht varnish (long oil) or pure tung. Have a read of this by Paul Sellars, it pretty much sums up what you need to be aware of in a single article on oils and finishes. At the end of the day, anything is better than nothing, you might just be back to re-finish sooner rather than later.

Great, I’ll have a read.

Thanks Bob

We used to use this on decking on a few boats I worked on
