I thought Timothy Dalton was good but those films really suffered from being made in the 80’s
Thought he came the closest to portraying the slightly nasty or cruel side of the Bond character in the books

Presumably would find Bond more appealing if he was a bit more racist, misogynist or if he was professing that climate change was a hoax and was actually a SPECTRE plot.

Bonds sexist chauvinistic traits have been considerably watered down over the last few films - In perspective the books were written in a time of rather different social norms . This is not a defense, the machismo of Connery / More etc seems quite foreign when viewing today. It’s an interesting point I think - What does an Alfa male look like today? How does he behave? Bond (the brand) is almost the definition of THE Alfa male.

The only Bond I’m genuinely uncomfortable watching is The Spy Who Loved me when Moore is noncing around that skater who’s young enough to be his daughter. Not his fault, but a horrendous bit of screenplay.

It means not just cleaning up its act, but looking at casting a woman or even taking away the faults that make him who he is (drink, gambling).
The feedback from the last film put a stop to too much tinkering in the ideas department. Besides, Matt already answered what I meant in the next post.
