Any MP who sees Norway 2.0 as a decent option should just vote for Mays deal, and frankly should have voted for it løng since.

Poncing around as if such a deal is a) a new revelation and b) gets hammered out on the back of a fag packet between now and next week hasn’t a fucking scooby

Approval of the deal with a confirmatory referendum is the only game in town IMHO

As long as revoke A50 is on there

Ken Clarke should have been doing the Brexit negotiations - he’d have bored them into submission within a week.:anguished:

No doubt that Bercow is strongly guiding this process given the amendments he has chosen.

That’s fine by me. I’d happily vote for all of these.

I like this comment on a football thread on the Grauniad:

I have a model to propose for the knockout stage of Euro 2020. If, in the first stage, England are defeated by, say, a record margin, the match is replayed. If, at the second attempt, England are still thumped, but by a smaller margin than the first time around, the match is played for a third time. It wouldn’t be necessary to play the entire 90 minutes – one half should suffice. If, on this occasion, England’s margin of defeat is smaller still, it would show that England are at least heading in the right direction. Accordingly, the other teams in the competition would play a tournament among themselves, and whoever emerged victorious would face England in a penalty shoot-out to determine the eventual winner. Johnny European might not like the process, but he’d learn a thing or two about English determination and resilience

I was watching 24 Hours In A&E the other night and I saw what I think must be Theresa May’s view of this situation. A mum came in with her delightful 3 year old daughter who, at nursery, had, inexplicably, managed to find a chickpea and then to push it up her left nostril. Everyone, perhaps even the child too, felt this situation needed to be resolved. Four or five grown-ups, including a child specialist, tried very long and hard, using all sorts of explanations and comforting demonstrations and distractions and even temptations to get the child to let them use the shiny metal hook thing to extract the chickpea. But the answer was the same. Sometimes matter-of-fact, sometimes grumpy, sometimes frightened. But always No. In the end the lovely doctor took mum to one side and said “I’m sorry, but the only way forward is to wrap her in a blanket so she can’t struggle, to get hold of her and then to do the deed. Is that OK ?” “Yes”, said mum. “She will scream” said the doctor “Will you be OK with that ?”. “Yes” said mum. So they went ahead. It took less than 10 seconds.

Of course now we have to wait 18 years or so to see whether the child suddenly snaps one day and pushes her mother down the stairs in an uncontrollable vengeance-driven fit.
