It was a lovely building dating from 1851. I hope they can rebuild it.

They will never be able to afford it, no doubt they will erect some steel and glass non-descript pos like they did when they modernised queen street.

I really hope you’re wrong. It would be a great loss to the city.

Is it not listed?

I believe it is a Category B listed building. According to Google AI:

A Category B listed building in Scotland is a structure of regional or more than local importance, representing a major example of a particular period, style, or building type. Making up about 50% of Scotland’s listed buildings, these structures are protected by Historic Environment Scotland and require special listed building consent from the local council for most alterations, extensions, or demolition.

Key details regarding Category B listed buildings include:

  • Significance: They are considered major examples, potentially featuring significant alterations while retaining their character.
  • Protection: They are legally protected, and any, even minor, alterations to the interior or exterior that affect their character require consent.
  • Scope: The listing applies to the entire building, including its interior and often any pre-1948 structures within its curtilage.
  • Context: They sit between Category A (national/international importance) and Category C (local importance).

If you are planning work on a Category B building, you must consult your local planning authority.

this is Glasgow council we’re talking about… it’ll never look like this ever again! sad times.

It’s not just the city council. Swinney has pledged government funding.

So do I but I just don’t see it happening unfortunately.

And if Nick’s book doesn’t do it, drop some shrooms:

So this weekend I met someone who pre-ordered the book in March, and hasn’t received it yet. I’m well frustrated about this, so I’m going to send them a copy I have, before investigating. There were a few hiccups with Amazon in the week of publication, which got sorted, but possibly this is fallout from that. So if anyone ordered and hasn’t received, can you let me know, so I can sort it out for you. Anyone who has ordered it, should have received it by now.

A few days ago, someone posted this on my Facebook page:

“It really is a great book. Gets inside the insididous nicotine mind — and once you’ve seen that — you simply cannot deny that continuing to collude with it would be insane. In other words: it works! bravo Nick Holden.”

To say I’m chuffed would be an understatement. I know it won’t help everyone, but some people is enough to have made it a worthwhile exercise.

In other news, a journalist who writes for Metro and Cosmopolitan asked for a review copy, which she has received, so I’m on tenterhooks waiting to see if she clicks with it.. :grimacing:
