Dad ‘honour’ - I committed to making this happen by end of June and if it doesn’t happen next weekend then I have failed.
If I have all the gear and we need to postpone due to weather that might just be acceptable

Go for it, all the best!
Also, I hadn’t realise it is less than 2 miles from the train station which means it’s only about a mile to a chippie.
So, will only take the bikes if needed for transporting gear
Thank you everyone glad I asked on here
Got two of these and the jaran 3 Radiant Insulated 4 Season Camping Mat
There were slightly smaller/ lighter options but these had both comfort and some insulation so seemed worth investing in.
Will see what cooking kit I can borrow but might just do chippie and pastry type food this time
Need to sort sleeping bags and then good to go
The tent and mats fit comfortably in a normal sized rucksack with room to spare but with sleeping bags and clothes etc… reckon we will take the bikes
Don’t !
Camping with kids in general?
Yes.
Or just camping.
If this were to turn into a general camping/backpacking/hiking thread I would be very interested in contributing. Seems like there’s a few other nuts on here
If you are going to be doing more wild camping in the future I would recommend down, packs smaller and lighter weight. Synthetic fill is still good, just heavier and bulky to pack. The two advantages of synthetic are cost and they retain insulting value when wet (dry quickly too). If a down bag gets wet you’re fucked. But still would go with down.
Unless you’re going to be camping during cold weather I would also look at backpacking quilts over sleeping bags
I don’t like down - not entirely sure but seems to irritate my asthma (may have just been coincidental with other triggers) so I avoid down bedding
