Car Wants (maybe once, but now just anything Jim can find on the internet. šŸ™„)

My friend owned one for years (he bought it with a JP Morgan bonus while blind drunk). It is a fabulous thing- looks amazing, sounds great, has a truly outstanding seventies interior. Itā€™s not terribly fast and does 13mpg but thatā€™s an occupational hazard of classic car ownership.

Youā€™re used to that sort of fuel consumption, no? :grinning:

I like Lotus Esprits. Theyā€™re flimsy and unreliable but great. In a keenly contested ranking of hopeless fragility, the Sport 300 sits at the top. 64 were made and they have a service interval of about 700 yards. It was the car that convinced Lotus their inline 4 had reached the end of development and that the V8 was needed (although, that simply moved the point of detonation to the gearbox).

Look at it though :heart_eyes:

Itā€™s going over the block on 28th May if anyone wants to buy it for me.

Never seen an Esprit I donā€™t like, though that is trying its hardest (excellent colour aside) - but with the caveats: a) I donā€™t fit; and b) I canā€™t drive for shit, means that the aesthetic choice is the right choice - i.e. the entire other end of development -

S1s are of course lovely but a bitā€¦ dainty. Compare those dinky Wolfrace alloys with this;

Thatā€™s a three piece, 10.5in wide O.Z and it is absolute pornography. If Neil Parish had been seen in the HoC looking at that, heā€™d have been burned at the stake.

Each to their own - not hatinā€™, still mirinā€™ā€¦

For a long time, the fastest Iā€™d ever been in a car was 130mph down the Wrexham bypass in a Lotus Esprit (not me driving I should add). I was roughly 16 and it was one hell of an experience for sure. Bizarrely, the only time Iā€™ve been faster was in a Volvo estate (TR5 version if memory serves). Now that was terrifying.

Arenā€™t they supposed to be completely dreadful to drive? Perhaps the various owners have noted this and used it as a big ornament instead.

This video prompted the postā€¦

A local Minicab driver had one of these in white. Travelled in it and it was my first time in an Alfa. I did drive a knackered 156 a few years laterā€¦:sunglasses:

Oops! Didnā€™t see that!
:sweat_smile:

Nice car. Just a pity about the wheels which donā€™t suit it at all.

De Tomaso Mangusta.
