Cocks on clocks (Part the Second)

Nice :ok_hand: On my long-list too.

Interesting slant on ‘ranking’ manufacturers based on average watchmaker hours per watch.

No hard and fast list and the bands are obviously massaged to keep some famous names away from the hoi paloi but not a terrible way of sorting the wheat from the chaff.
Made me look at Glashütte Original in a new light.

A friend of mine who lives in Hong Kong and is far more into watches than I recommended Glashutte Original when I told him I’d like a Lange but it was too expensive. His information was it was close on quality but not on image, so a lot less expensive.
This analysis makes it look even better value, I bought a Panograph in 2004.

I like Panerai and they’ve got some interesting new models, but they’re so large…look too big on me :frowning:

That was really interesting, thanks. It led to some other interesting articles (especially the second site where he takes apart movements…)

Nice - first time I’ve seen a PanoGraph in the wild - is that SS or white gold? Only available in red gold now, and £28,000 now.

GO are high on my wish-list, and currently still decent VFM, albeit Brexit alone seems to have added a ~£1k premium for British buyers. SeaQ Panorama Date for me pls…

Just means selling everything else…

That’s more expensive than many AL&S models. I know GO are not just a more affordable AL&S but still. You could also get a s/h Lange 1 for that (or a little bit more).

Do it.

That is stunning. So refreshing to see a modern looking dial from one of the higher end of horology.

White face and Roman numberals on a modern watch? No.

Mine is 42 mm and just right for me. The more usual 44 mm was too big, the 40 mm too small.

Interesting, didn’t know they did a 40mm… maybe I’ve only seen the 44mm. Might go and have a look to see what the smaller size looks like.

It’s probably not much help but

44mm Panerai, 40mm Panerai
42mm (?) IWC Aquatimer - that thing really is a landmine on the steel bracelet, 36mm boy’s size IWC Ingenieur

The 40mm is the wife’s so has been given all the care you’d expect - it’s road pizza, I don’t think it’s been serviced since purchase around 2000.

Interesting, thanks. The smaller Panerai looks a lot better to me. I like the IWC Ingenieur too.

Like Panerai, I find a lot of IWC models too big for my wrist (e.g. the Portugieser) which is a shame as I like a lot of their styling otherwise. Some of their Top Gun models are also good, although they spoil them by writing Top Gun in red across them :face_vomiting:

Yes, stainless. It is a long time ago, seem to remember around £5k with a deal at the time.

That Ingenieur is lovely

Such is my view on aesthetics It’s probably my fave of that quartet. I find something joyous in nice things that have been enjoyed.

For all the masturbating about “tool watch”, that one has genuinely been ridden hard and put up wet.
