Fuck, I was going to buy the Tudor Black Bay ceramic but it’s just gone up by £360 from £3850 to £4210. That’s a hell of a jump since yesterday.
There’s an unworn one (that doesn’t exist but will be sourced) in the UK for the lower of your two prices on chrono24.
Personally I wouldn’t pay retail for, err, anything.
Well I won’t be paying the new price for one. I’ve also been looking at the Seamaster Planet Ocean secondhand. I want a nice watch that’s not so nice that I’m afraid to wear it. I need to try a couple on to see which size suits me best. I have 18.5cm wrist.
You want the 45mm PO - my wrist is 17.5cm and I find the 43.5mm PO a mite small. Worth considering the chronograph versions - bit of a bargain compared to the 3-handers. This one at £3,250 should be had for £3K with an offer. Or there’s a later ceramic bezel version at £3.9k which you should be able to get ~£3.75k.
BB ceramic is nice, but all the Tudor divers wear small IMO.
If you really want ceramic - Longines make a ceramic HydroConquest - unlike the Tudor it’s all ceramic (no steel bezel), it’s larger, and it’s cheaper - I personally think it’s a much better watch all told. There’s one in 'states under £2K - even with maximum possible taxes, charges, etc, you should land it for £2,600.
LOL, my wrist is 19cm and I find 42mm watches WAY too big. 36mm is my sweet spot, 40 for big sports watches.
It’s all a matter of taste. Big watches = chav for me; fashionable for others.
Agreed, also - divers lose a lot of dial space to the bezel and can look and feel small compared with modestly-sized dress watches with little or no bezel.
This is the current favourite. I’m not too keen on chronograph versions as I prefer the less crowded face. I’d consider the Seamaster if it hadn’t got the wave design and the cut out hands. The Planet looks like it’ll be much easier to read at a glance. My main concern is the height at just over 16mm.

17.5 here and prefer a 36
Worth getting yourself to a dealership if you’re buying new - they are VERY shiny watches in the metal - decently legible though, and certainly a lot nicer than the Seamaster. The thickness wears better with the larger sizes - but definitely worth trying some on to see what fits well. I don’t find it intrusive, but I like chronos which are always fatter.
Thanks Paul.
You should go for the larger one mate. You have stature.
Rick is quite a large chap though IIRC.
The point about it being fashionable is wrong in any case, the trend now is back towards smaller sizes.
I like big watches, or should I say big dial watches (as sods points out quite rightly) mainly so I can read the buggers with my dimming sight.
Got this 40mm, mostly dial polo homage for Xmas, stuck it on a cheap rubber strap and it’s my new everyday thing.
My first non hacking movement watch so accuracy is not really a thing with it but it looks nice I think.
Somewhat surprised one of those is big enuff for you! Tidy tho’.
Have you pulled the trigger on that, Ed? VERY nice
41mm, so fine, anything over 40mm is generally ok.
Yes.
It looks very nice.
I like the latest Tudor stuff, and you are quite adorable too.
