Cocks on clocks (Part the Second)

Not really. Whatever the intention, it’s still a fake watch. A good one, too, that most ordinary people wouldn’t recognise as being a fake. Admittedly it wouldn’t pass for a vintage example because it’s too well-made, but it could pass as one of Seiko’s own, countless, reissues.

Because it’s a Seiko, few people will care, and because Phil’s one of the most all-round decent human beings I’ve ever encountered, he’d never let anyone think it’s anything other than what it is.

To flip the concept over to one of this forum’s dearly-beloved brands: if a Rolex with this kind of provenance ends up at Rolex’s own service centre, they confiscate it from the owner (which they are entitled to do for breach-of-copyright/trademark reasons), and they smash it to tiny pieces and throw the pieces away. This is not a tremendously rare occurrence, anecdotally - as it’s how a few Rolex owners discover they were sold one of the ever-growing pantheon of remarkably good Chinese fakes.

For hypocrisy-signalling reasons, I also own a fake ‘Willard’ AND a fake Rolex -

The ‘Willard’ is a sterile replica by Steeldive, with a scratchproof ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal, plus cooking NH35 - in almost every way it’s functionally better than the original, and cost £90. The ‘Kurtz’ is a no-name about which I know nothing. Wear both once a year when Apocalypse Now gets its annual viewing…

So, I purchased one of these earlier today…Hmmmmmmmmm

Fwiw Ed, I’ve been absolutely over the moon with all the hi-fi swag I’ve bought in the past following (or at least paying some attention to) your recommendations elsewhere from this esteemed parish. …
But…

Either Wallsend has lost it’s shine as far as it’s reputation for shipbuilding excellence and being at the arse end of Emperor Hadrian’s greatest achievement, or it just fallen off the end of the earth and just doesn’t cut it anymore when it comes to the idea of modern technology and the likes of radio time signals?..Out of respect I’m leaning towards your judgement being A1+, but so far the radio (?) controlled clock jobby is a bit of an awkwardly shaped paperweight…

TL:Dr…Shoulda bought a Rolex! :exploding_head:

Other wall clocks are available :grinning:

The one here is still keeping good time- maybe take it back and swap it?

Might have to…fwiw absolutely not a dig at you personally Ed, more a comment on your choice of horological technology!

Yeah…You can fuck right off with that…I’d rather have a sundial in the middle of my living room than resort to such a monstrosity! :face_vomiting:

Shock horror update…The £7.99 clock from Lidl has finally sprung into action :clock9:, and now keeps better time than any Rolex on the planet!

So we do watches here too? Does anyone ever talk about hifi?

I would love to have many more, but the budget only travels so far:

My first proper Swiss watch, now some 12 years old and not long back from a service:

I later added one I’d been eyeing up for about a decade:

For a while I toyed with a reverso for my 40th birthday:

But I didn’t really get on with it, so it left me and was ultimately replaced with currently my very favourite!

Some honorary mentions to daft ones I have kicking about

Not so much,
Very much a post hifi forum, most people are more or less where they want to be, all is quite with no changes for quite a while until suddenly something major happens, normally involving horns of some description or some exotic turntable or cart. :grinning:

Nice watches

Cameras always make them look huge, but it’s very compact on wrist. I love it

ohh I want a Reverso but it has to be a duoface

That one was, reverso duo day/night.

Ironically I think it’s the wrong choice. You never flip it over, people don’t ask, you end up never doing it, and it becomes a pointless feature.

If I ever have one again, it would be the OG, the classic, how it was meant to be.

Longines Master triple date/moon/chrono is the pick of the bunch for my tastes; I’d own one myself but the double whammy of buggered eyesight and only wearing dress watches to funerals is a bit too limiting (tho’ I wish the latter was a lot more limiting TBH! :weary:). Hell of a lot of watchmaking for not too much ££££.
