It’s definitely a more frequent hallmark of RPG based games, where playing for the story line can still be just as immersive. Not sure how well it would translate to games like Battlefield or Dark Souls though.
The core game is like a hybrid of Space Invaders and old school “brick smasher” style games, but with additional base building, character progression etc. I’m super impressed at how well a small team has managed to merge together a few different genres and produce a really coherent and fun game as a result. Even though you repeat levels quite a bit, there’s never been a feeling of repetition or grind at any point. In part, there’s a whole load of playable characters, and for the most part they’ve been really well thought through to be meaningfully different.
I’ve been looking into to binning off my Windows install and switching to Bazzite which is the Linux distro Steam OS is built on. It has a nice desktop build the Steam OS front end so you can do regular PC things too.
Only problem I can see looking at my Steam library is many of my games don’t have a native Steam OS release. Don’t know if this means they won’t play at all, or they would play and just boot up in Wine (or whatever it is now).
I dunno, playing so that every shot is a head shot is something I could totally get behind.
Reminds me of this indoor golf thing I did at a corporate evening. You hit the balls into a projected screen; it measured the trajectory of the golf ball and so you could play a round without being more than six foot away from your pint. We just optioned in generous tolerances and a ten foot gimme on putts and even I was hitting the occasional par. Win!
Actually, I did that for the first 2/3rds or so of the original Crysis as a fun challenge (after a key point, there are too many things that are impossible to one-shot). Definitely added a worthwhile bit of replayability to the game.
Got Cyberpunk on a half price deal on Steam. Just started playing it this evening - will see how I fare with the futuristic setting. I’m more of an old skool RPG guy (Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights).
I don’t often get the chance to dive in to longer games these days so the Nintendo Switch has been great for jumping in and out of games in the limited time I can spare.
Well that caused me to hunt up the age of the racing game I sank countless thousands of hours into - 24 years ago it was released (Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec for those that care).
