Covfaffe - the road to despair, calling at futility and disappointment

Thanks. When you say:

What do you mean by both types?

On another note, anyone tried either of these?

I mean the Kalita flat bottomed style of filter and the more generic cone shaped filter.

In the picture I put of the Torch that has a Kalita 155 filter in it, flat bottomed with the wavy wall.

Got it, thanks :+1:

New subscription beans: A natural from Costa Rica. Smells beautiful and I’m just boiling the kettle now.

First cup and I really like it. This is the darkest roast they’ve sent so far on this subscription, so I wasn’t sure what to expect as I’ve enjoyed the others at one and two beans on their indicator level. First pour over, it’s definitely not as fruity and I see what they mean by marzipan.

Decided to bail on the Timemore grinder after a pretty lukewarm Lance Hendrick review. I might try and get the Zerno Z1 which is currently on limited release.

So far the V60 is exceedingly meh
Tried Hoff and 6/4 methods, neither has impressed. I much prefer my Aeropress and its much less faff.

What sort of grind are you using?

They’re three very distinct drinks. I don’t necessarily think as a coffee lover you’d be expected to enjoy pour overs just because.

4th marker on P64.

Yea, agreed. I realise ive most likely not hit the V60 sweet spot but so far its not making me feel its worth persuing.
The Aeropress makes a much stronger and smoother brew which is obviously where my preference lays.

Not sure what that means, but for comparison when using the Niche (which I know you had) they mark espresso as 20 on their dial, for V60 I use one full rotation coarser round to about 26.
So considerably coarser.
But I agree a V60 is not a ‘strong’ brew and very different from the Aeropress.
My Aeropress languishes in the back of the cupboard and is never used.

Started courser and dialled back till i got the most favourable brew.
For reference, my standard beans were ground at 18 on the Niche and at 1.2 on the P64.

I have the Aeropress Go as i got it for camping trips, ill probably go for the standard Aeropress now as its a bigger capacity.

I paid zero import on the P64. Was expecting an invoice to follow but nothing (yet)!

This is the second West Java coffee from the same lot I have had now from Horsham, the first one was a natural which was very bright and zingy. This lactic fermentation is really nice and completely different, the flavour really lasts in the mouth.

For pour over or espresso, Dom?
