Casa is nice too. The Lagoms are probably the least conical conicals and good for PO. The portability of the Mini is good, just be aware it has a fairly low torque motor and can stall on very light roast beans.
Thanks. It seems like the Casa is pretty similar to the Mini but with (better) espresso capability too - is that fair, or would it be better for PO also?
It just seems to be more capable with larger burrs and higher torque. They claim their mizen burrs excel at light roasts.
Have we had coffee from China before?
This turned up in my mailbox
Much cheapness. Alleged ceramic burr. Will be surprised if it lasts more than five minutes. Does grind fine for espresso.
Been using a sage pro grinder.
Thinking about getting a decent single dose grinder
Any recommendations?
For espresso? DF54, DF64, Lagom Mini, Lagom Casa. Niche Zero is still OK.
I’m never going to go full banana here but is there a dip your toe in (not to silly re faff n cost) that gets you better than high street coffee at home
Thinking aeropress or drippy type filter and a source of ready ground coffee that works well
As I type this I realise I might not get the answer I was hoping for
The issue will be the ready ground. Grinding your own is key as you get the grind size right for what you are doing and the beans you buy. Commercially ground stuff is a huge variety of sizes from the different suppliers and will be ground for espresso 90% of the time not aeropress or v60.
I would start with a hand grinder doesn’t have to cost the earth, you can try different grind sizes and ‘dial in’ the flavour. Plus once dialed in you will be pretty much done (unless you go espresso route). Then if you ever want, get a fancier hand grinder and then you can start adjusting for the beans.
I would start with a v60 myself having started on an aeropress.
Cheap scales, v60 and a cheap hand grinder is all you need.
The second you grind coffee it starts to oxidise and degrade. Never buy pre-ground for that reason alone, even from good roasters.
Yes espresso
No to expresso so which hand grinder is an easy to use no brainer for sensible money then? Hario mini or Skelton ceramic hand seem ok
Hario filter and papers from Amazon a decent choice?
We have baking scales already so can start with those
Any recommended beans for beginners?
Also, a cafetière is a cheap faff-free option. The grinder is the most important part.
But if you like stuff like high street coffee is that not latte/cappuccino? Which would mean an Espresso machine is required.
Slightly over my budget of £50 but looks nice
Cafiteirre is a good option, we already have one and we like large coffees
So a grinder plus a sensible bag of beans
Can’t remember what model I have but have been very happy with my 1zpresso grinder
Same here.
