Cricket, lovely cricket (Part 2)

A bit deceiving as the crowds at the test this week were around 25k per day which is more than our grounds hold. I’m surprised India don’t sell out though given the population and how popular cricket is there.

You’ll get the best part of 100K for day 1 of the Boxing Day Test is Melbourne. If the game goes for 5 days you could easily see 350K + rolling up to the MCG depending on the opposition and/or the weather.

Not a surprise, but he has no luck!

Wood & Leach out, Bashir & Anderson in.

I’d sort of assumed Anderson had retired!

Not only still playing but seemingly with a dyed Barnet! :face_with_monocle:

I expect he is there to exploit reverse swing, should the team manage to maintain the ball. He is very capable of drying up runs though, no matter the surface. An alternate view might be that he is dibbly- dobbly these days and should stand aside for a whippersnapper. His selection is not as mad as some they have made though!

Is Eddie Hemmings still available ?

Of course, Laker kept him out of the squad though.

Great catch from Foakes and a good bit of bowling from Hartley . Needed that!

They’ve both bowled well since tea.

And then some absolute filth from Joe

Have left home now, on the way into London, so have missed the last 30 mins. The combination of Rehan and Jimmy looked good!

Needed that!

Another before the close and it will be a pretty decent day on this surface.

Governance illustrated thus.

A pretty good day, I think…

Anderson was excellent, he’s there because he merits it. And how refreshing to see young spinners picked and supported. Not so long ago, England would be looking at dragging out aged, county sweats for tours of India , spin hardly to be trusted. To have three kids in the side with three caps between them is amazing! You can see why too… Both Hartley and Bashir bowl a tight line and length with a lovely loop and Rehan was excellent when I was watching earlier, I can’t remember a bad ball, which is really something for a young wristy.

You could argue that another seamer would have been nice, but would they have done that much better on that surface? And which of the three spinners would be left out?

I suspect Anderson had more test caps than the spinners combined before at least two of the spinners were born.

Edit: yep. 7 tests before Bashir was born.

If Stokes’ recovery goes as he/they have suggested, that question could be moot by the summer. As it is, I’m happy with the current selections.

I’m agreeing, it was a rhetorical question. :+1::grin:
