Look on the bright side, on first innings totals we’re 47 runs better off than we were in the last test!
I expect that is pretty much how the captain and coach will be looking at it. They have fought back a few times recently from this sort of position, so no point in getting depressed, yet…

Expected result but a) England have done far better with the current approach than they would have done previously and b) of course Bumrah is going to win matches for India.

Yes, plenty of encouragement for England, they are well in this series. Very impressed with the younger players. Bumrah and Jaiswal were the difference.
No complaints with the result, the second innings was a more than decent effort.
Root and Bairstow need to get amongst the runs if we’re going to seriously challenge them in the remaining tests.

He’s an endlessly fascintating player and human. This latest phase of his career is maybe the most amazing yet. He’s such a great captain, in every facet of the game. Inventive, unpredictable, absolutely on it, for hours on end. Then there is the empathetic man management, and then the way he is with the media. These days he speaks with utter clarity about what he thinks about the game and then backs it up on the field. He’s got balls!
Can’t wait for the next chapter tomorrow.
