DeepSeek aka Skynet "all your base are belong to us"

Never really got the whole “AI” bullshit but it’s ironic how the US has now made DeepSeek the most downloaded app in history which in turn knocked 17% off the value of Nvidia.

Seems crazy that US and UK users are lining up to interact and probably give colossal amounts of data to a Chinese platform that filters what information is provided to align with China’s politics and was probably (in a large way) designed to crawl data from the west.

TikTok for tech bros.

And the more vulnerable will end up believing what it tells them

Has that actually been verified - from what I can see, the code base is open source, so that should be checkable. I guess if you’re downloading via an app store, you cannot guarantee that what you’re getting is the same as the open source code base.

I’m guessing slightly here, but I wonder if they’ve open-sourced the core LLM, but then the app has essentially a very complex Enterprise System Prompt sat behind it for all the CCP requirements.

Looks like it as asking for the answer in leetspeak etc evades the filter

Yeah, and where did that “work” come from? Was it an army of bots scraping anything and everything?

Haha unfortunately the defence they used when being sued for pinching everyone’s data is going to bite them in the arse
