Dental Implants

Has anyone had dental implants?
What was your experience?

I have had a bridge failure with the supporting tooth having a major root fracture which means the bridge was removed and the remains of the tooth extracted.

I asked the dentist what the options were and he said ‘plate or implants’ I need to go back for a check and discuss options in a couple of weeks.

They can bridge implant too if the jawbone is healthy enough - I’ve been looking at it for a couple of years - People keep saying go abroad but I’m not confident to do that

Watching with interest. This will likely happen once I’ve moved. Needs sorting.

I have a plate for one missing front tooth. Last time I visited the dentist I asked about an implant and he quoted me £3K

I’m sure we could do a DIY job at Jim’s in a couple of weeks, probably easier to pull them all and start afresh.

Nah; too clean!

Hope so, maybe he will choke on them.

I’ve got 1 back tooth pulled. I have no problem chewing after that healed.

Jan has two teeth missing on one top side a good tooth in the middle. No problem chewing. Tooth pulled on the other side. Over the years the aligned teeth have pulled closer together. No problem here either.

Implants quoted at £2.5 k each, no discount for multiple jobs.

I’ve got two. About 3.5k each including getting offending teeth removed. One upper pre molar on both sides.
Had one for about two years and the other for about six months. Pricy but great. Don’t feel much different to my normal teeth tbh.

I could do with a molar implant, did they give you any indication of the lifespan of an implant?

One safe way to go about it is to contact the British Embassy in a given country, and ask which dentists they use. It’s pretty easy to get first class dentistry in way cheaper countries. I know plenty of people who’ve done it. I wouldn’t hesitate if I needed serious work. I was in Goa last winter, and a friend was there specifically getting implants. The cost difference is off the scale, and you get a nice holiday into the bargain. I know someone who set up a business connecting people with a particular dental practice in Eastern Europe, because it was so good. Obviously it’s not something to just throw yourself into uninformed, but it’s pretty easy to get reliable info. The costs here for serious work are just unworkable for normal mortals. Luckily (touch wood) I have really good teeth, and have never yet needed anything beyond a couple of fillings. But if I ever do, I’ll 100% certain be going overseas.

Twenty years plus is what they told me, if you take care of them, ie floss and brush regularly. I think they can replace the crown part as well if required. the implant is the threaded insert into your jaw bone, the crown goes on at the end.

That’s way longer than I was expecting, makes the cost a lot more bearable.

Has anyone had a successful implant without taking antibiotics?

This is good to hear - The idea of crashing blindly into ‘Turkey teeth’ fills me with the oygle goygles.

I think I took them for a few days but I’m immunosuppressed. I can give you details of my guy over southside if you wanted to ask him anything. He was very good.

Thanks that would be helpful.

I’m allergic to the first and second line dental antibiotics. The third line antibiotics are just not effective enough sadly. As a result, I believe the success rate of an implant is greatly reduced.

Given the horrendous costs, it’s a big gamble financially if everything has to come back out due to persistent infection.
