Dicking about with crap old cars

I’ve had to put a couple of projects on the back burner so I could make a start modifying the GTM wheel arches.

I need those fifteens on so I can fit the bigger brakes.

The rear wheel arches are more or less there.

It’s pissing down here and not that warm either. I’m still in bed after last nights session debating whether to get up and go to the workshop and start laying up some glassfibre

I thought I’d go with aluminium mesh for starters to give the wet glass fibre something solid to sit on.

One layer of glass fibre weave and five layers of chopped mat later and I have something that resembles a wheel arch. Still a lot to do and three more to go :confounded:

Looking good so far :+1:
Is that a shut line between the indicator repeater and what looks like a keyhole? Will you need to make a cut in the wheelarch once the meat of it is in place?

Edit: just looked back up and I can see there is a panel join there.

Yes it’s the shut line between the clamshell and the A pillar. I decided to do the arch extension as one piece and cut it afterwards.

Thanks, I thought it might be that. I’d expect it to finish up much tidier that way than if you were building the arch in 2 pieces.

I hope so. I knew it was going to be a big job and there were a few moments when I nearly said bollocks to it

That’s the other front arch laid up. I’m just finishing off meshing the rear arches ready for another session tomorrow

I always wondered how cars continued to be able to operate in the extreme cold. Well here’s something I found randomly:

Door in Walnut with Ebony edge protectors, latch, handle and stays to fit.

Is the Aga in yet?

And don’t forget the gyroscope on air suspension so he can have tunes on the move.

Kind of, log burner stove for the :tent:.

Shiny new wheels have arrived, just need to decide on tyres. Has anyone used something like the Yokohama A539 (185/60/R13) say compared to the few options available in the standard 175/70R13 such as the Uniroyal RainExpert3, Coni EcoContact6 or Falken Sincera SN832. The latter there being recommended by a lot of MGB owners for example but not found anywhere that can supply and fit.

Taking dicking about with crap old cars to the extreme:

The front arches are nearly there

I’m away tomorrow but I’m hoping to have both arches ready for paint on Sunday.
