Diet and Fitness

Thanks Dave

That’s good going Kev in itself so adding in the gym as well should make a big difference :+1:

Give it up. There’s no future in it.

6 weeks on and I have been going to the Gym 3 -4 times a week and have lost 6 Kilos
I have cut a lot of carbs out of my diet and feel better all round.

Biggest bonus is that I have stopped injecting Insulin. I saw my Diabetic consultant last week and she discharged me back to my GP

Outstanding :star2:

Well done Kev. The results speak for themselves but how do you feel physically now?

A lot better,
Silly things like my hat blew off on the golf course the other week and dissapeared down the faiway, to everyones amusemnt I legged it after it, I caught the hat and jogged back without being out of breath, that would have floored me a few months ago.
I take the stairs everywhere now and walk up escalators on the Underground and feel so much better.
I sleep better don’t snack on shit during the day and don’t feel hungry.
I can see why ‘Lose weight’ is the medical advice for so many ills!

Reading that is great inspiration for anyone procrastinating about whether or not to try to lose weight/ be a bit more active :+1:

Reposting this again in the vague hope that one or two might find this helps relieve or protect against back/ hip/ shoulder pain.

Went to my first yoga session last Sunday, for the exact reason you mention as my back is bad and my knees are a bit ropey.

Not much change in the weight since last time but I am a lot fitter.

I had another appointment with the diabetic nurse the other day as she wanted a hbA1c blood test that represented a full three months on the new diet and meds

I started the new regime in August because despite injecting 20 units of Insulin a day + 60mg Gliclazide + 100mg Sitagliptin + 2g Metformin I was geting hbA1c blood tests of 75 - 80 nmol/mol.

The latest result was 43 nmol/mol which according to the nurse is ‘pre-diabetic’ She wants me to get it down to 42 which is ‘non diabetic’

Meds now reduced to 1g Metformin a day.

She also said that my bad cholesterol wasn’t very bad at all and my good cholesterol was very good indeed. She said that overall I was fitter now than I have been for years.

I walked out of the practice with a real spring in my step and got on the phone to the DVLA to get the medical restriction on my driving licence removed :grinning:
