Very impressive, well done!
Take pics!
Just got my confirmation that I have a place in the London Landmarks Half Marathon 2024.
I have got 9 months to get to a point where I can drag my still considerable bulk around 13 miles of Central London.
Back on the diet and restart the excercise!
As per usual I was doing well with training and then stopped and found it difficult to start back up again. I’ve decided to join a gym near work instead of training in my garage.
Still doing some free weight stuff but that area of the gym is smaller than the machine area so I’m trying out various machines too. I’ve been figuring out which ones I like and creating a routine.
Going well so far and this is the first time ever I’ve had the chance to use a hack squat machine, which I’m loving.
I’ve noticed that many people seem to be throwing the weight around (fast) and then sitting on their phones on the machines for ages between sets. One person even left his phone on a machine and I thought he’d dropped it but it turned out he was keeping the machine free as he used another - the prick. I watched him and he wasn’t even doing pre-exhaust.
Anyway, it’s a warm and convenient place to get in and out and when I use the pin loading machines (whatever they’re called) it’s so quick!
Let’s go!
Not fitness but diet.
One of the approximately meeeellion blood tests that I’ve had recently has finally come back a bit off. It seems that I’m mildly deficient in copper.
First of all: who knew that the body needs copper?
Apparently this can be caused by a gastric band, inflammatory bowel disease etc. so that definitely tracks in the “messed up digestive system” department.
Foods that are a good source of copper include
- liver
- oysters
- shiitake mushrooms (which seems weirdly specific)
- nuts
- leafy greens like spinach and Swiss chard
I had a plateful of summer greens last night so I think I’m set for a couple of days.
That’s all for today - class dismissed ![]()
I found this interesting:
Post Angioplasty, my diet has had to be modified somewhat.
Not working has allowed me more time for cooking leading to some extra care with ingredients.
Lower fat, less red meat, smaller portions, more vegetarian food, interesting combinations, more grains/less carbs, only drinking alcohol 2/7 (mostly wine/cider, reducing the carbs by less beer), plus loads more walking.
I have dropped from a peak of 92Kg to 85 Kg. After gaining 2Kg over Xmas, I am now below 85 @ 84.7Kg.
My Cholesterol has remained stable for the last 5 months @ 3.4, but my LDL has continued to drop in relation, now at 1.7.
I am extremely pleased with the way things are progressing, and looking forward to warmer weather to try some new salad ideas.
Ultimately, I am aiming to arrive in Straya @ or around 80Kg.
