DIY Audio General - stuff you're making, tips, advice sought, etc

Effectively yes. Should have done it ages ago. Was prompted by hearing @stu 's AI300 a few weeks back.

Yes it’s surprisingly quiet.

Nice, I think a reasonably priced valve integrated with phono stage could do well

Every time I’ve heard the Leben integrated I’ve never got on with it. Not sure why, the ingredients seem promising enough.

Your challenge, should you wish to accept it, is to squeeze a T10 in there now

May, I fear, be asking for just a little too much

My speaker build is crawling along with the purchase of some 8" cheapo drivers from David Pinnegar. Now, for the horns to put them in I’m thinking I’m going to buy a lathe and have a shot at turning them. Why not? I’m confident that I can get them done even if it takes more than one attempt. Never tried anything like this but I think it’ll be nice to do and I’m in no major hurry. Will do this in 2021 and it’s really something to look forward to doing.

Took a look on the Volvotreter site and will need to figure out this pivot and guide:

Unless someone has another idea for cutting the profile?

3D print 10% oversize then sand cast in gun metal?

That would take a large printer though surely?

This is being done on the cheap!

Lol, it certainly won’t be fast and I never mentioned good. Hopefully they’ll be adequate.

I’ve bought myself another low power (5w) guitar amp kit. This one has a 3 band EQ, gain and master volume. It is able to use EL34, EL84, 6V6 and 6L6 valves which can be swaped in easily. It has an ECC83 in the preamp. It’ll be interested to swap the power valves, I have a EL34 and 6V6 to start with.
It also has the faclity to control the amps power output so you can drive the output section into distrotion at home volume levels via a continuously controllable voltage.

Built and test the power supply + plus the valve heater circuit. All OK so far…

Did it come with those nice tag boards or did you make them?

EL34 ? EL36s do exist, but they’re quite rare things, especially in audio amps.

VB

They were part of the kit.

that’s a typo, should be EL34. I did get it right in the second sentance.
(changed it)

I’m tempted to make a copy of a Shindo Pre I mended earlier in the year (I liked how it sounded) but it really needs a custom tagboard. You can buy the turrets & I could use a piece of plexi or Bakelite.
