We have a winner -
Saffy is very tolerant
She really is a lovely girl and is very kind and tolerant with puppies. She was the same with Redford when he was little, and he was a right bitey little shit! Scout is very lucky.
Saffy is adorable.
You’ve probably seen the pups up thread, but I’m trying (unsuccessfully, due to them being speedy little buggers) to get individual shots of all of them before they depart for their new homes. Here’s Mary (names all chosen by their new families)
Jess
and Ben (Stokes)
Only phone pics at the moment - got to dig out the camera
Got back from a walk at 1pm and nothing out of the ordinary until we got home. Maddie didn’t come into the house straight away and when I looked out she was standing with her paw in the air. I called her in and she limped through the door on 3 legs putting no weight at all on her front right leg.
No yelps, no sign of anything wrong right up to that point. She lay in front of the fire (usual spot) for a couple of hours and seemed to be in no pain but didn’t move. I checked her paw and that seemed fine, she didn’t wince or growl when I felt her leg and other than the limp you wouldn’t think anything was wrong. She did keep lifting the leg into the air and the bottom half seemed to be hanging limp.
I’m now in full panic mode, ferries off-island seem very doubtful tomorrow due to high winds and consequently little possibility of getting her to the vet until Monday.
I took a call from a mate and we talked for nearly an hour but during that time she limped into the kitchen and I could see she was putting a little weight on the leg which was slightly encouraging.
At 3pm Hildur went to the door (it was time for another walk) and Maddie followed, seemingly walking a good deal better so I decided to risk a short (3/4 mile) walk up the road and back, I easily turn back if she showed any distress. Both of them went out and Maddie growled at Hildur (the usual “chase me” growl) Hildur responded and Maddie raced up the road at such a speed I’m convinced that Mick The Miller wouldn’t have caught her. I kept checking on her all the way back from the main road and not even a sign of a limp, PHEW!
No idea what was wrong with her leg but it all seems fine now.
We finally have all of our front room back and have taken down the pen which has corralled Nellie overnight since she arrived here. She still wakes up between 5 and 6 though… ![]()
Good news, maybe a trapped nerve.
Could be, other than that I can’t think of why she was so lame and yet 2 hrs later running about like she was training for the next race at Harringay.
Can’t emphasise how relieved I was/am.
Nellie has perked up over the last couple of days. She generates a lot of interest to male dogs at the moment…
Bass head doggo?
