It’s generally easiest to get the domain name through the same outfit that does the hosting, as they then deal with a lot of the DNS stuff.
Does she want to just show people what she does on the website, or does she want people to be able to purchase through it? Any other requirements for it?
Thanks. This being new territory, I think the idea is that the site will feature examples of existing work and also be capable of allowing sales. Gillian is great with the creative side, so would like to maintain some control over how the site looks, but she is not strong on IT matters. I’d help her out, but I’m not much better.
Thing is you can do AI websites or WIX / Shopify etc but they are full of code which can harm SEO. As there is little point spending time building a site that is not on page 1 of Google (75% of users never scroll past pg1) you start getting into much more complicated shit. I know this as I’m waist deep in this quagmire.
Once upon a time the advice was to register your own domain name as that made it easier to shop around when your hosting company came back with a hugely inflated renewal price. Is that still the case ?
These days I would start locally with Facebook and insta, register the domain (go daddy is good) for. Later website if it builds but stick a flat wix type site up for now and refer from socials
