Yes yes yes. All the folk who are born and bred here take anyone at face value. It’s the incomers from Wolverhampton and Brum who are the mouthy ones.

I have a really good Bangladeshi restaurant near me.
One day (probably 10 years ago now) I was chatting to the guys who run it and found out that they’re all from the same family who settled in Oldham, where I was born. Not only that they lived in in the same street, and the next street along, as my Gran and my aunt, who were both nurses as it happens.
So I told them this and they were all, Oh wow, yeah our mum used to take us round there if we hurt ourselves or were ill and we’d get plasters and stuff from them, Please say hello and thanks, etc etc. They were chuffed, and I still get free curries now and then on the strength of it.
Now, I remember from when I used to go and visit that there was always awesome food being brought round in thanks for this kind of stuff, and during Ramadan it ramped up amazingly, just out of neighbourliness.
My gran loved the neighbourhood, she really enjoyed the whole multiculturalism thing, like the saris and food and the music.
But when she died, my aunt couldn’t wait to sell up and move to a “white” area.
When I told my aunt about the guys at the restaurant she was “Oh, well they were the decent ones, the rest of them are just like dirty animals…” 
The guy who runs our local Indian takeaway is from Oldham too… it’s a conspiracy I tell you

Only as an ingredient in the rubbish burgers he sees as essential.
It seems to be the opposite here, the natives who have all been here for generations are some of the vilest inward looking haters of anything that doesn’t conform to their puritanical views and are thoroughly nasty pieces of gammon. Its only the recent influx over the last decade of people from outside the town who have made it bearable.
For the first few years every conversation I struck up with a local would rapidly have me saying ‘U wot mate?’ in utter disbelief.
These are the people that the likes of Cummings, Trump, Bannon etc are so eager tap into, and its not hard to see how see how bloody easy it is.

I was over egging it when I said that. There are some of the locals who have some bad attitudes but the reality nasty ones with openly racist views are usually not locals. And of course there are many decent people moving into the area too.
