Donald Trump finally announced as some massive in-joke (Part 2)

Well yes, if my Auntie had bollocks etc.

The corollary is if the Republicans had a stronger candidate, Biden probably wouldn’t even be the nominee.

Hard to call against a sitting President. There is no way of removing him as in UK. No 1922 Committee. No letters to Sir GB.
The Democrats nomination has not yet been finalised which is the only way they have out of this. But they need to move fast

Yes. It happened here first. Fingers crossed the US learns from our mistake.

In any modern, forward-looking country, Kamala Harris would be a shoo-in. USA though …

It’s not his age that is the main factor for me it’s his mental sharpness, he’s clearly suffering from a neurodegenerative illness, mild or otherwise. It was previously the odd gaff, now it seems to be every time he makes a public appearance. There are plenty of 81 year olds who are sharp as a tack, he isn’t one of them. He’s barely comprehensible at times, the lucidity has gone.
I doubt very much he is driving daily government decisions. I’m not suggesting any great conspiracy theories here but if he’s not capable of delivering a few sentences at times he must be heavily relying on advisors to assist him in managing the complexities of governing.

We disagree

Oh, it was shocking.

But… The choice is Biden, or Trump (and all that the GOP currently stands for).
With Biden, there’s a massive chance that he would stand down after the election. (Why the Dems haven’t run someone else is another matter).
With Trump, he’ll wholesale change the playing field. You’d not be rid of him 'til his toes turn up.

There wasn’t time. There was so much bullshit and utter lies coming out of Trump that it would have taken longer than the debate to address it al. and that’s without Trumps continual interruptions.

I’m fairly sure it was deliberate. Biden stutters. He has to consider what he is going to say before saying it. (The debate was a BIG mistake for him.) Trump - and more importantly, those behind him - knew this, and exploited this to the fullest advantage.

Gish gallop. Seriously. Look it up (if you’re unfamiliar with the term.)

But to be clear, I think our conclusion is the same - he shouldn’t be there.

I think we can agree on that!

So - vote Trump? With all the evident lies and corruption, and the certainty of global fuck ups that would ensure?

Who’d be an American in this election. :face_exhaling:

Neither of them should! One doesn’t care, the other is ineffectual!

I think I would vote Biden and hope he has the sense to stand down after 1-2 years. Then Americans can learn that having a black woman as president won’t be the end of the world.

If we’re entertaining flights of fancy, vote Cornel West!

I genuinely think this is the current best course for the US.
The two main parties have absolutely failed the American people by offering the choice that they have.

After last nights performance I doubt he’ll make it to the vote. They need to get a replacement in quick. Someone who can counter Trump’s blatant lies and bullying. Trump didn’t even bother trying to answer the questions, just slung false accusations & shot at Biden. It was too easy for him, he was disgraceful.

A friend in the US just said:

“Old man sounded like an old man.
Con man sounded like a con man.
I will take an old man over an old con man any day.”

What a choice.

Concerned with either driving a car; let alone a country.

I suspect it would have been easier not to have reached this point if Biden’s daily ambitions stretched to a Werther’s Original and a Golden Girls marathon rather than an active presidency. He’s a career politician who waited a very (very) long time for his shot. Attempts to pry him away from it are going to be very hard, even if he is on the slide.

Do you think he watches the play back? That mess would dink the confidence of any sane man.
