Donald Trump finally announced as some massive in-joke (Part 2)

An amazing pic in a way…

And we’re talking about an 80 and 77 year old. One or both could be dead or debilitated before next November

Let’s hope one of them is. Or in gaol (the same one obvs).

My wife had some of her team over from the US and took them out for dinner earlier in the week. All highly educated, from both East and West coast but not the middle. All Democrat leaning (outwardly). Their consensus was at this point if nothing changes over the next year or so Trump will more than likely win. Not at all what she’d expected to hear. The gist seemed to be Biden isn’t inspiring the Democrat vote, has made no in roads into the centre right and the right seem to see Trump as having delivered on what he’s said he would do

Dread to think the consequences

Stefanik was one of Trumps water carriers during his presidency. This won’t go anywhere, just some performative nonsense to show her supporters she’s “fighting for Trump”.

I know this is ancient and has been posted before, but it came up in my recommended videos and I forgot how excellent it is . . .

A Colorado judge has found Trump engaged in insurrection during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. However, a ruling to keep him off the state’s primary ballot has been rejected because it’s unclear whether a Civil War-era Constitutional amendment barring insurrectionists from public office applies to the presidency.

The relevant bit is:
No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.

The case was brought on behalf of voters in Colorado, asking for Trump to be kept off the ballot in Colorado for the 2024 presidential election. The reasoning given was that Trump engaged in an insurrection and section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution should apply because it disqualifies him from holding any government office “civil or military” in the United States or any state ever again.
While it explicitly mentions some offices of government, it does not mention the role of President.

That’s a huge loophole.

I would have thought that ‘The Commander In Chief’ would count as a an officer of the United States

Being an elector for president and then voting for an insurrectionist would seem to be covered?

CiC is just commander of the military without any formal rank.

An officer of the united states is appointed by the President (and approved by the senate) and not elected so don’t think he would count as one.

The title president is really just a poncy way of saying he is the head of the executive branch.

This is a long, and chilling, essay

Use to view here:

Starmer needs to win or a most unholy union happens.

Starmer currently isn’t showing much inclination to deviate significantly from prevailing right wing agendas (sadly)

A Trump dictatorship seems inevitable if he wins, which is looking more likely than not. Biden is running out of time to step aside and has shown zero inclination to do so. This interview from the FT is chilling, especially the last 5 mins where they discuss how organised Trump’s second term will be with 100’s of people said to be planning it now. From day one he will be surrounded by compliant supporters and enablers, and will immediately invoke the insurrection act. Fucking nuts.
