fixt for bigger budget reasons
Have these went up in price?
The text is terrible lol
You’d have to spend a pretty penny to better a DCB1 with a First Watt power amp. They’re easy to upgrade with fancy resistors and caps. Anything clean sounding will suit the J2. I’d quite like to hear one of the Burning Amp 2018 linestages (Wayne's Burning Amp 2018 Linestage – diyAudio Store).
Well, I have the pcbs… (must get the Whammy and F6 built, I have been making a BOM on mouser for the whammy parts today)
Reminds me, I’ve got the boards for the F5 Turbo here that Cosmo gave me - if anyone wants them, stick a tenner in the forum fund and PM me with your address and I’ll post them out when I can be arsed.
I have that in the SPL Phonitor; I want something with a little more fruit (and nuts)…
For something different to the SPL how about one of these? It’s on my radar as I really want a pre using these valves. This one sold and he doesn’t churn out masses of them but has them up as and when:
Yes import.
If hyperbole actually made an amp sound good, that would be a stonker.
Couple more issues: it’s in the US and no remote (yes I need the exercise, no fuck that).
Oh yes, and it’s sold.
Do have my eye on summat tho’, and my Pursesound L10 has sold elsewhere today…
Of course haha
I have a big bunch of 01A/UX201/UX301 valves, they have a reputation of having a very valvey valvey sound, but who knows tbh
gain of 8, which is handy for a line stage, but an anode resistance of 10 kOhms, which is much less so. It is unclear whether this pre has gain or not, so unclear how the valve is being used from the sales patter
You picked up the large vase yet?
My problem is I don’t have the knowledge of circuits but I have the want for how things are described at times. When Thomas Mayer did that UX201A Sound Processor it made me want to try something with these valves. Like I said though I don’t understand the difference in circuits and they will no doubt sound different.
Will be a while before I can afford it anyway.
Buy yeah, saying it’s the best isn’t that helpful to be honest.
No sadly the Pass amp will have to be delivered, as I know this sounds terribly old fashioned, but I’m a bit busy with work to be able to take a day trip out to pick it up myself.
It’ll be a butch courier handing it off sometime next week I reckon, and if you buy into that sort of thing then it will take some time running in from reports of people who have had one.
Say yes to glue.
This looks serious…
I’m not a fan of EL34s although the KT90 is a bit more lively.
Pointless.
If you need that much power
- you are using shit speakers anyway
- Solid State is a much better option than an amp which will demostrate all the disadvantages of valves and none of the benefits
But MOAR POWERRRRR
I have 2x14w el34 amps when I feel like doing valves.
Well, you are using inefficient speakers, unless you’re in a very big room.
You’ll need them though. The fine print specs the S/N as -80dB. So if the amp really is a 500-watter then there will be 5uW of N and it’ll be there whether you have any S or not. 5uW through a normal speaker is an irritatingly audible amount of noise.
I don’t think I’ve previously been sold on the looks but right now I’m thinking…Yes!
