eBay stuff (Part 2)

I don’t normally ‘do’ EL34s, but if I did, these would be very much in contention -

Do like Tube Tech stuff, and these are very fairly priced.

Looks really good balanced off its feet there

Yeah, 2ndHHifi always do their little video with big lumps of hifi on that rotating cakestand jobby.

Garrard shop display turntable at that. Seems to be able to take a fair bit of weight.

I’ve got one, they are pretty rubbish but nice at the same time

Who the fuck in their right mind would pay £12,500 for a knock off of an Audio Note DAC using a TDA1541 and a single spdif input.

Just checked on the pricelist and in 2012 an ANUK DAC4 Sig Balanced cost just shy of £20,000 new - so probably another £10K on top of that now, hence a cheeky punt by the seller if they can find anyone that wants an unknown-and-complex valve DAC…

And to be fair to SW1X their stuff is quite different to ANUK now - my ANK DAC is a near-clone, but this thing is quite different, and quite well put together internally -

The thing that baffles me with stuff like this (ANK as well) is why they copy the faults of ANUK: the shitty casework, lousy user-interfaces and hard-to-find obsolete chips. Sure those old R2R chips do sound good, but modern DAC and interface chips can sound amazing with a good PSU and I/O stages - which is where a lot of chifi falls down - and of course you can play summat other than red book…

I tried one of his DACs a few years ago when he was flogging them via AoS and it was pretty dull, added to that the guy was a bit arrogant (yeah shock horror audio designer is prima donna)

I compared it to the 2.1x Sig I had at the time and it didn’t come anywhere close.

Don’t appear to be TAD drivers :frowning:

Does seem expensive for what they actually are

JBL compression and woofer, think there was a thread on another forum about them a good while ago, the photos certainly ring a bell (may have been the lancing forum)

Don’t know anything about the JBL selenium range but they don’t seem to be that expensive.

I’m sure it’s an ok build but it’s not a TAD replica without TAD drivers.

You could build something very similar with much better drivers for less.

or buy some JBL L300 for half the price of those

Not a bad price for early AN-E Sp/e Hemp

Wouldn’t touch them with a bargepole if the drivers were done DIY though.

Nice job lot of 12J5 tubes, perfect for DIYing (12J5 = 12.6V version of 6J5 = 1/2 a 6SN7)
