One of the downsides of clicking on these links is shortly after you get sent an offer on the poxy things.

hmmm interesting business approach, stick some foo crystals in and describe it as something different and then try to flog for £3500

Guess they took it in px or are selling for the original owner as he was trying to flog it for years with the same bullshit description.

A lot of speaker for very little money, if I hadn’t just bought the stilettos I’d be buying these for the bedroom system

Are these any good? Seems cheap for a big lump of iron.

those look like voltage transformers on the anodes, can they be used as output transformers, seems bizarre?

Never come across these before.

Beyond my knowledge unfortunately. I know the 509 is normally a tv valve and replaced by the 519 which ear used in some of their amplifiers

looks like push pull amplifier with the output transformers connected to the anodes (top cap) of the EL509 output valves

a nice ceramic top cap is popular, but wrapping a piece of wire around the top cap also appears effective, provided you dont poke around to much

You can certainly use mains transformers as output transformers. Generally, they’re not very good as mains transformers aren’t designed for high bandwidth, but some types work ok (mainly by accident).

Has awkwardbydesign been trying to ‘improve’ amplifiers again?

Oh dear, that’s my level of fuckuppery

Ouch ! … At least he’s putting his hands up re what’s actually wrong with it… this helping some repair type no end.

One thing I will say. I’m a bit surprised how the Hegel looks inside …a bit rough TBH …just had a look on Google…normal .. :grimacing:

full range fostex seems like a weird choice :person_shrugging:

Remember Dave Smith doing just that on his early Heffer tube amp (I borrowed it for a while).
Then came Son Of Heffer with lovely Lundahl audio Transformers of course - we all built one.
I transported the umpteen cases from the metal box factory (Dave borrowed for a weekend or two) in Sweden by special baggage on SAS.
Those were the days..
