Any in paisley? Free bass traps. I’d love them but too far away and don’t really have space
Don’t look all that different from mine!

These are nice looking things.
Never thought I would see another of Gary Dews prototype pre amps for sale ? At an ambitious price!
A friend has one and he likes it very much!
Certainly is!
Theres nothing ambitious here though
Exceptional Verdier ‘Platine Nouvelle’ Turntable | eBay UK
300Bs and VU meters.
Could be a good deal if people are scared off the work.
These seem too cheap to be genuine?
They have been for sale for a very long time - They’re slightly smaller than my friends pair and have BD3 entry level drivers and no horn around the driver. I did speak to the seller a while back and he’s maluable on price
That would explain why they are so much cheaper then.
They still seem to be getting great reviews tho, despite that….
If he’d take say €8k or €9k for them, might be worth a punt maybe?
Kedar probably pushed these along quite strongly when he reviewed my friends ones. The drivers from that review are the ones I have in my completely inapropriate space.
The Excenter’s (stand and silly sized horn) are not like the pnoes which are a true smooth constatly expanding full range horn (3M) that go down to about 35Hz I would guess. No crossover no delays, no multi amps not much to get in the way. His whole system from 7" arm to Garrard drive to cartridge are tuned for dynamics and realism - It’s rather make me re think some personal yard sticks that I thought were concrete.
Was with you right up to here ![]()
I quite fancied the Pnoes when you posted a link to a pair in Germany (in my wanted full range horns thread about 3 years back), but they were €50k.
These are much more reasonably priced and despite them not having the best/latest AER drivers, are quite tempting….
Yes the spendy is in the drivers - bit of a jump between BD3/4 and 5
Defo pass the “nutter” test for friends and family visiting With tales of the Bose system they have invested in
Yes A*
That’s not really true. A woofer plus whizzer cone is really a mechanical crossover, and a back loaded horn is a complicated interference system with a delay caused by the length of the back horn, which will be variable as these things are always curved.
Ultimately it’s a highly compromised system that you can’t adjust once it’s built. I’ve moved from a back loaded full range driver to a multi way front horn system, and there are far fewer compromises, both theoretically and sonically.
I think when you really look at what works best, whether that’s a crossover or no crossover, plus time alignment and a smooth, continuously expanding horn all firing from one point, it gets very close to something that just feels right. It’s not perfect on paper, but in terms of coherence, phase behaviour and how everything arrives together, it can feel incredibly direct, dynamic and unforced. At least that’s how it comes across to me.
I know digital can deal with timing fairly precisely, but to do that it has to apply filters and reshape the signal, and even though this might improve things technically, it changes the nature of it in a way I don’t always connect with. It’s not that it’s wrong, it’s just a different set of compromises, and not one I tend to love.
I guess for me it comes down to that sense of everything happening together, without being split apart and reassembled, even if that means accepting some pesky cone physics which the AER drivers seem to manage better than most.
