I’ve bought a few ‘low value’ (a few hundred £ - the most expensive item was ~£900) hifi bits from Japan.
Never been charged anything other than the purchase price.
That might be down to luck rather than anything else so I’ve probably been no help whatsoever.

Before BREXshit, customs seemed to ignore stuff from JP, which saved a few £££ Prices were keen, but I found descriptions were sometimes overly positive. I also found used stuff never came with original packaging - small homes I guess.
The only thing that’s changed since BREXshit is the fact that fewer JP sellers will deal with you because of the paperwork, and you will always pay the full suite of taxes. Fair enough, but there are no bargains consequently. 110V of course.

I have bought 2 items from Japan this year, I was charged 15% tax on both.
I’ve bought a fair few bits from Japan and I tend to find if buying from Yahoo Auctions via FromJapan or similar that you tend to get consistently walloped with tax; whereas from ebay sellers from Japan it can be a lottery and sometimes you will and sometimes you’ll get lucky.
I bought a watch on Chrono24 from Japan recently. Paid around 20% import fees in total. More recently about the same from Hong Kong.
I bought a Phono Stage from Denmark it cost me approx 20% import fees. Its a lottery if you get charged or not I think.
Bought a £160 stylus got hit for £42

Bloody typical, been looking for C20 for ages and then bite the bullet and buy some Super 20a only for these to pop up with a nice finish as well.
Based on how good the 20a are this is a bargain
