As much as this is a very good idea, I am just waiting to see how it gets sabotaged by massive incompetence.
The developers ought to be able to manage it technically. Theyāll now have teams of people working on how to overcharge (no pun intended) for it while cutting every price corner they can on the actual installations.
I wonder if new-build estates will now be laid out so the rear roofs all face south ?. Bit of a nuisance for developments in shady valleys or close to tall trees.
Seems like something builders should be compelled to do as an essential and south facing gardens makes sense too
I really donāt get why they donāt make building regs state generation capacity minimums for new build and replacement roofs, stops people thinking about roĆ by making it irrelevant
Would work well for one half of the road.
I presume a south facing roof could be done regardless of the house direction, just orientate the roof design to face the sun
Does not matter as much now, panels are coming down so much in price, just cover the roof to compensate. Our house has WNW/ESE facing roof, just max out the space.
Yep, when I expressed concern to the designer of our solar system about not being south facing, he said not to worry, weāll just split the panels over both sides, so one side gets the sun in the morning and tāother in the afternoon - it works just as well
There was talk of solar tiles for roofsā¦
It should just be something that is part of the structures.
There are solar tiles manufactured but they are hugely more expensive both in material and labour.
Weāve tried to get panels a number of times but have always been told that because of the dormer windows thereās not enough room. Donāt know if thatās changed now.
I enquired once and was told it couldnāt be done because I have a slate roof.
You shouldāve offered to pay for it up frontā¦
ā¦instead of having it on the slate.
Nonsense it just requires a contractor who knows the material , when I got my mcs in 2012 the only roofs we were putting PV on in Exmoor were all slate
If not better depending on the occupants lifestyle
Can solve problems with clipping depending on how the system is sized.
I know it can be done Iām just quoting what was said. I can understand it mind, if the roof is ānail sickā you could find that when you started stripping back to fix the mounting clips you might find half the roof in the gutters.
Iād rafter you kept that to yourself.
My problem is that I donāt have any south facing slopes, the biggest slopes are east and north facing, itās a hip roof, the remainder is west facing. Batterywise, what would be a useful size?
