FS: 2 Sun Ra LP's 😂

I bought these less than a week ago from Sounds of the Universe, for £26+ p&p each. It will surprise nobody to hear that I now wish I hadn’t :joy:

LP 1 has been played 3/4 of a time and LP 2 less than 1/2 a time, so how does £40 the pair delivered sound ?

No offence but I saw you post one of those the other night and thought “ooh, niche, even by Sun Ra standards”

No offence taken. You are right, I would say they are certainly from his most ‘out there’ period.

Lol

My neighbour asked me if I ever play anything other than bands tuning up!

Rest assured I called him a cheeky cunt!:rofl::rofl:

I had you as a completist Mike.
Was sure you were going for the other 140* albums

You overestimate me Kev :joy:

funny, I had a very interesting debate with a collector friend about the cult of Sun Ra. His argument was that Sun Ra is to black people what the grateful dead is to white folks. There are edges to this to pick at but the core is quite solid.

They both have hundreds of recordings?
Both had loads of live recordings shared amongst their communities
Deadheads were looking for an enhanced spirtuality through music and drugs while the Arkastra believed in messages from the interstellar beyond through the music.

Apart from that Sun Ra had an anti drug stance while the Dead were permanently stoned.

Two different routes to the same lunacy!
I suppose they were quite similar although I had never thought about it on racial lines.

Genuine RA fans were acid fried I can assure you - the anti drug stance was coming from the swamping of black neighbourhoods with Heroin
