Gigs I'm going to. The Gyroscope diaries

Took the in-laws to see The Aussie Pink Floyd in Oxford last night. It was a fun night out and the band were good. The ticket deal included quite a lot of Moet.

The Aussies have a reputation for their shows being ‘most like’ the real thing. It’s hard to know how to judge that. They played a lot of Wish You Were Here and a selection of stuff from other albums. By the time Floyd were performing that material they were in huge venues (I saw The Wall in Earls Court in Aug 80 with a reported attendance of 20,000 each night). Last night would have been less than a tenth of that. The Aussies had plenty of kit though - inflatables, lots of lasers etc and could easily handle a substantially bigger venue than Oxford.

Anyway, here the audience is after the final encore and the house lights have gone up. I don’t think you’ll spot me (although I have ).

Sadly I didn’t make it.
Someone was hit on the track north of Haywards Heath and no trains were running . Replacement bus service between Haywards Heath and Three Bridges and Brighton were playing at Arsenal. People everywhere.
Gave up and went home, Lines will be reopened at 21.00.

Total mayhem and disruption but if this was a suicide my heart goes out to the poor sod who saw no other option.

Kathryn Williams at The Glasshouse (formerly The Sage) Gateshead. S2 at The Glasshouse is a nice sounding, intimate little theatre for such music.
Abba Revival was on in the big S1 theatre.
Matt Deighton was support act and then played the full show with Kathryn Williams.

Not Edinburgh I presume?

No, the Scala in London.

Ah, I see the Liquid Room used to be the Music Box.

Went to a lot of stuff there back in the day.

Dragged @htm_1968 to see King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard last night. Pretty solid gig, although neither of us lasted until the end for various reasons. The Aviva is quite an odd venue in many ways, but the sound was pretty good in there.

Interesting show. Reminded me of Fuck Buttons in places. Many thanks for the lift. I’m shattered today.

EDIT: There was a lot of flutage. Granted the flute was very heavily treated so it sounded more like an out of tune clarinet , but standards need to be maintained

The spirit of Ian Anderson lives on

Nowhere near the levels of excruciating twaddle thankfully. Pretty decent drummer though. Must be fit as a fiddle as he never really stopped throughout the set.

Throw away your joy division albums and get this as punishment

Well that went south quite quickly.

Ended up in the middle of a fight and stood between the two big guys while they cooled off. I had to do this in Antwerp too. I think nobody actually wants to get their shit kicked in so they appreciate the crumbly old giffer in the middle.

So as I was cleaning my glasses from the spilled beer I got grabbed and pinned in the lobby by four security because of my obvious street fighting credentials.

Eventually called 999 to report that I had been kidnapped which caused the manager to appear as if by magic.

Reviewing the photos unsurprisingly security are well practiced in turning their faces away at the last second.

Obviously I won’t be darkening their doors again.

Oh yeah, got hit on again  I think that makes five times this year, only this time it was a guy.

It makes sense when you think about it - at the gig so you’re into the scene, age-appropriate, and you’re on your own :man_shrugging:

It must have been that breaking up a fight big boy.

Variety is the spice of life…

Hey I’m just trying to keep it fresh - don’t judge me

In hindsight, just as ladies of a certain age seem to draw conclusions based on my lack of an obvious partner, the black leather docker cap that I was wearing could have been open to interpretation.
