This thread seems appropriate for this story, so glad this lifeboat station has been Gr2 listed, not just for the town, but for everyone. It has a story to tell, not just of the loss, but also the years before.
As a nipper i spent many a happy hour discovering gold and diamonds on the rocky beach and still have feint memories of ice creams and pub lunches (when they were an actual treat). Years later of course, the news of the Penlee lifeboat disaster unfolded and to this day it resonates . If it can still bring a tear to my eyes i can only imagine at the hole such loss must have punched into that local comunity.
