If you’re going to play them through your hifi you’ll need a phono stage with a different Eq than for LPs.

You must have read my thoughts! Was going to ask this very question! The portable one is the best solution. I fully intend to use this set up for picnics, etc.
Reminds me that years ago, I’d read in an old magazine that thorns may be used as an emergency stylus.
A thorn was liberated from a tree and it bloody well worked! Try that with modern consumer electronics!

Soundsmith make a cartridge that uses a cactus spine for the cantilever. That’s half way there
