Scallion = spring onion. Rarely see the word used anymore, usually only on Chinese takeaway menus featuring Scallion Pancakes

One of the many reasons I love this place is a man can post a recipe for “Cold Soup Nimoy” in response to a critically irksome thread and no member blinks, they just take issue with the ingredients.
= A commendable AA innings.

It’s the default term in most of the USA I believe

Any reasonably food literate American/Canadian will know the term shallot, but green onion is more commonly used

This. Most of the US recipes I read, they are referred to Green Onions.

I always thought scallions was an Irish thing.

The wife’s family definitely says scallions.
