Convert the master tape to dsd. As in one play and you have your new master file.
Then start the stamper process.
There is a lot to be done before the stamper process though. If i understand what you are saying you mean the cutting engineer uses the digital file as his listening source to apply compression and equalization. Is that correct?
Tape is converted to DSD digital. People no like. Proud audiophile man have hurty ass. Mofi not really managing the fall out well. More hurty.
Yes but what is not being explained is why and at what point in the process the conversion takes place.
Tape played into a machine that makes 4xdsd digital.
Then the rest happens.
I spent 27 mins watching the very slick Acoustic Sounds video which shows their very impressive and dedicated process. The trouble is they skipped through the lacquer cutting process very quickly and didn’t show any process details.
Sort of reinforces the subterfuge doesn’t it ?
All sounds like a fish fight between expensive reissue labels to me. So far.
The conflict is with Mofi customers and Mofi, Anal Prod are just taking the high ground.
Possibly dishonestly?
Some might say…Feel free to bask in the 424 pages (in just over a week) of ass flame over on the Hoff
Like most threads on there about represses/reissues one look induced nausea.
I’m of the mindset that anything other than a first pressing is a facsimile, sometimes better sounding sometimes not but they are never the original.
Yeah-mon
The audiophool butt hurt is most entertaining. When you’re more worried about the process than the end result, something is rotten and you should probably have a long hard think about why you’re in this hobby. It’s perfectly possible for analogue to be utter shite and believing that it’s somehow magically faultless, while digital is automatically garbage, is just fucking idiotic. I’m glad it’s giving conniptions. The emperor has no clothes and myths are busted.
That said, mofi are cunts for lying about it. (And if you’re digitising it, just give me the digital file, and save all the bother of cutting it to vinyl).
Totally agree. They are winding themselves up over processes they don’t understand when they should be listening to the final result. I always thought audiophiles were interested in sound quality - guess not.
Well put.
Hence all the blather and wailing. Head v heart and much confusion.
The thought that Wacko’s Thriller started all this is like icing on the cake.
The spike up Mofiman’s ass: “I have an expensive analogue reproduction system and feed it with digital”
