I miss the mince pie shenanigans…wrong season…

I guess the sausage roll thread will have to suffice …

Was just starting to settle in as well . FFS

You asked to show to a speaker that could produce 100dB/W at 20Hz, and then a speaker that could produce the same SPL at 20Hz as 1KHz.
I obliged.

We are missing a summer specific food item to rage/pernick/mutate/Hestonbate about.

Exactly…!

Now let’s see the ones that @shrink has/ is going to buy that measure the same and match with this big headroom amp…

Except you didn’t mention size. You just fly-tipped some absolute statement about bass needing power, that were simply wrong.

All in the fuses for me. They need gold.

Are you suggesting I’m immortal? I’ll take it as a compliment.

I’m pleasantly surprised by how well a spot of overconfident nitwittery and fail can fill the time with amusement until Gary Numan comes on :joy:

Hmmmm

MF have been manufacturing in Taiwan since the 1990s. Nothing has changed except ownership.

By way of contrast to your experiences, the worst hifi I have owned - the worst hifi I have ever heard, was the X-series v3 full-stack I once owned.

It was a clear and obvious downgrade from the Cambridge 640 series components that preceded it.

It was shrill and bright yet devoid of any real detail and insight. No bass either.

Nothing helped - different speakers, cables, even internal rebuilds - in desperation I threw everything at it unable to believe it was as bad as it was. Still awful.

If you suffer from advanced presbyacusis / HF hearing loss it may perhaps sound adequate, but not otherwise.

Ghastly.

Sincere apologies to whatever poor bastards bought it from me.

I’ve missed the spikey @coco

I did mention early on. That as with all things, there are compromises in all designs. One size does not fit all. This forum is in danger of believing that only one way of doing things can possibly be correct.

I’m happy to be open to many options, and having masses of headroom, is rarely a bad thing. Except that in 2025 the idle consumption of big amps is rather at odds with the price of my utilities.

Thank the lord you’re here to save us from ourselves :folded_hands:

Tbf, most of us accept that we all talk bollocks and carry on in our own sweet way regardless. Works for us.

It’s ok. I’d hope no one here took anything anyone else said seriously. I suspect we are probably all drunk anyway
