Was that statue in the brothel?

Just outside for when hydration is needed

Are they still excavating the building they put a roof over with walkways allowing you to look down at ongoing work?

Blakey

Yes and a few others, it felt a lot bigger than when i went 25 years ago, just a really fascinating place to feel history

!

Park your car 2km away then jump in their taxi and 300 steps down and a lovely beach and bar , just the tonic for all the sightseeing,

Beach looks great. It’s the 300 steps back up that would be the killer for me !

Enjoying a tasteful and civilised holiday in Skiathos and this just happened.

Nope, no idea.

Just back from ebiking the Appia antica way, again a bit hot but lovely way to spend 4 hours aside from both kids getting punctures when we went off piste to the viaduct. On the way to the airport, knackered.

Great fun taking bikes along there, we were a bit time limited last year and didn’t get as far into the viaducts park as I’d have liked. Needs a full day really. I’ll go again.

You heading out on that Eurostar, Terry? Never been on it and looking forward to our trip.

Yes. We get heavily discounted tickets through work.
First leg is to Lille.
Then Strasbourg, Colmar, Freiburg, Luxembourg, Brussels, then back to that London.

I’d forgotten about this thread.

In May we spent a week in Garmisch-Partenkirchen supporting BiL who is one of the goalies for the NZ inline hockey team.

I’m not a big follower of sports but this was great fun - it’s very fast and 20 minutes each way.

Neither of us had done any research at all so when the train started climbing and climbing we were surprised to find ourselves in the high alps. It’s absolutely stunning country.

However the mountains mostly mean relentlessly pish weather, hence it being great for winter sports because the rain turns into a shit-ton of snow in the winter.

The Bavarian food was as vitamin-free as ever

Next week we go to NI for a week. The MiL’s car has had to be sold because of some pretty odd license and insurance issues so the wife has hired one for the duration, although it will probably mostly be used for supermarket runs.

September I’m doing London → Brussels → Cologne (overnight) → Munich by train to stay with a very old friend upon whom life has consistently taken a dump over the last few years. Planning to hit Oktoberfest one night. Another friend (we’re all class of 85 at Uni - well they are, I got thrown out) has said he’ll come too but he says that every year and doesn’t, so we’ll see.

The return leg is Munich → Frankfurt → Brussels (overnight) → London. I plan on hitting up a couple of my favourite bars in Brussels. I’ve given myself a squeaky-bum 20 minute change in Frankfurt so frankly the wheels are going to fall off at some point.

October I figured I was too old for Desertfest Antwerp but then they announced Bongripper so it had to be done. Castle Rat and Neptunian Maximalism are also on the bill at this point. I had a pretty negative AirBnB experience last year so this year I’m staying smack in the middle at the Hilton. TBH it worked out about £50 more than a median AirBnB.

November I want to go somewhere for my birthday. I’ll have worn out the wheels on Eurostar by that point so it will probably be a stay in the UK, maybe Edinburgh. The last time we stayed there was the wife’s 50th and we got up on the Sunday to a text from her mother saying that her uncle had died. Much frantic flight booking on the train back - there is a huge taboo around the funeral being anything more than three days after the death.

Then NI in December for Christmas I guess but nothing booked yet.

edit: I don’t know why I kept typing “one” instead of “on” :grinning:

Sounds like more work than actual work :grinning:

If you get as far as Basel I’ll happily shout you a beer (or three) :clinking_beer_mugs:
